Gary H. Sherman

Senior Managing Director

Gary Sherman has over 25 years of “hands on” experience successfully developing, repositioning and managing underperforming real estate projects throughout the United States. During the early 1990s, he acquired and managed over $2 billion of non-performing commercial loans. Over the past 15 years, as a principal, he has acquired and/or managed over $1 billion in real estate assets, often in partnership with top U.S. investment firms.

Recent projects include a ground-up $30 million residential development in the West Village (sold July 2008). In addition, Mr. Sherman has provided advisory services to developers and investment firms, including Gaw Capital Partners, Angelo Gordon & Co. and RFR Holding affiliates.

From 1996 to 2005, Mr. Sherman was the Managing Director and a principal at Euristates, Inc., a subsidiary of top French public investment company EURIS, SA, where he directed and actively managed all U.S. and international real estate investment activities. From 1994 to 1996, while at Apollo Real Estate Advisors, he helped manage its initial $500 million equity fund that contained over $2 billion of real estate assets. From 1993 to 1994, he was at Lennar Partners, a Morgan Stanley Real Estate Fund joint venture, where he helped acquire and manage over $2 billion of distressed commercial real estate loans.

Mr. Sherman began his real estate career in 1981 by working in construction and development at Community Developers, Inc., a land development and homebuilding company founded by his father, Martin Sherman, in the 1950s. Mr. Sherman has been a speaker at numerous real estate conferences and has been a guest lecturer at Columbia and NYU’s Graduate Real Estate Development Programs. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for Nets Sports LLC (Atlantic Yards Development) and Jericho Project.

Mr. Sherman received a B.S. in Economics from Tulane University in 1978 and a J.D. from Tulane University School of Law in 1980. He is a member of the Bars of New York and New Jersey.
